Prologue: Rin

A gentle breeze blew across me, carrying the faint scent of mint. The cool, tingling scent cooled my throat as I breathed in. I could hear the blades of grass caressing each other all around. I could feel someone to my right, pressed firmly against my side, with a hand resting on my stomach. The rise and fall of that persons chest was calm and soothing to feel.

I moved closer towards to the warm body of that person. I knew this warmth. This person is very special to me. I remained quiet and blind for some time, waiting for that person to awaken and speak to me. I waited for what felt like hours, but that person continued to dream alone.

I could feel threads unraveling nearby. Before we separated once again, I wanted to see that persons face. Even though, I knew the lie, I refused to believe it was false.

I opened my eyes.

The breeze left, the mint vanished, the grass was gone. The warm, tender body of that person was nowhere to be found, that presence had never been there.

The torn sky was covered in a thick layer of black clouds, with the red light of the Veil glowing faintly through them. The black clouds of dust, radioactive waste, and the ashes of billions of humans, animals, and plants were the unintended byproduct of the Second Apocalypse. It is what keeps the Veil from being an all-seeing, omnipotent god.

I was floating in a sea, being jostled weakly by the floating objects in it.

The sea was red, thick, and smelled and tasted of iron. I knew it was blood. I kept my face upwards.

Despite my attempt to ignore the now common knowledge, my heart rate elevated and my body lost its heat.

The moaning of the tortured bodies floating around me, touching me, grew louder and more ominous. I knew they were dead. I remember the last time I had looked around. The decapitated and dismembered bodies were twitching and the many mouths riddled across their twisted shapes were moaning in anticipation of the end.

The clouds broke. Something that was impossible, given that they would last for thousands of years. An eye was visible above. The red light emanating from it burned me. I could feel the fire wrapping around me, as I screamed in pain. But it wouldn’t end. It didn’t burn my skin or nerves, so no matter how painful or long it lasted, I had no hope of escape. It burned down to the very marrow of my bones and center of my brain.

My body was sucked lower into the sea of blood and hungry flesh.

The burning still wouldn’t end.

I tried to keep my mouth shut, but I couldn’t breathe within the fluid. I reflexively opened my mouth to breathe, instantly flooding it with blood.

Pieces of them swam in as I choked and drowned. Fingers, eyes, and other pieces of them swam in, their mouths hungry. I could feel them squirming around within my body as they chewed outwards from my stomach. My mind was filled with my screams and the moans of flesh.

It’s voice resounded deep within my conscience, before my soul could finally slip away.

Holy Shit. That was a bit dark haha. but, Rin, I had originally intended the prologue to be about what the main characters were doing before the apocalypse happened, but this is cool, either way, I guess. Good job.

Actually it's relevant, and I'll show that later xD.

ok. I'm gonna post up a thread about the "veil". and the "darkness" too. I've updated my idea. I'll post it up eventually
